Recent reads and recommendations from my 6 year-old:

written by McKenna Siddals
illustrated by Ashley Wolff
Tricycle Press, 2010
Out of the Egg
written and illustrated by Tina Matthews
Houghton Mifflin, 2007
My Friend Rabbit
written and illustrated by Eric Rohmann
Roaring Book Press, 2002
And the number one requested re-read last week was:
Good-Night, Owl!
written and illustrated by Pat Hutchins
Macmillan, 1972
We will be taking our weekly trip to the library tonight and selecting a new reading stack. What does your child recommend?
In similar news, I just finished reading The Iron King by Julie Kagawa (Harlequin Teen, 2010). I loved it so much I've added the next two books in the Iron Fey trilogy to my reading pile. It's classic fantasy with a modern feel. Lots of action and just enough romance. Highly recommended.
Happy reading!

Lydia,
ReplyDeleteMy five-year-old twins LOVED the book "Mr. Putter and Tabby Write the Book" by Cynthia Rylant.
It follows the life of an old man and his cat as the man decides to become an author. It will be a read aloud one, but both of you will chuckle at the "writing references" throughout.
We highly recommend! (Amazon has a look inside feature so you can get a glimpse from home)
Christi Corbett
Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI had Good-Night, Owl! as a child.
ReplyDeleteMy all-time favorite (still a fave today) is Where the Wild Things Are, a book I've been happy to share with my own children.
Both of my boys loved GoodNight Moon, and we recently passed their copy of it to my nephew, Asher. He just turned one, and seems to be as entranced with it as my kids were.
Some of my faves: Goodnight Moon, George and Martha, the Henry and Mudge series...there's great stuff out there. My kids loved Goodnight Moon so much, we ended up giving them each their own copy. We also loved Big Red Barn, another Margaret Wise Brown book. Jon Scieska's The True Story of the Three Little Pigs is hilarious.
ReplyDeleteSuch a special time. Enjoy!
