Taking My Annual Spring Break

I used to feel guilty about taking a blog break, but then I realized that springtime is my most productive time, both in writing and life in general. If you were following this blog last year, you might remember that I took off almost the entire month of April to finish make extreme progress on the novel I was writing then. And I was going to take off all of April again this year, but...

I really really love blogging, and I love all of you. This is a difficult habit to break.

So, obviously, I didn't take off the whole month this year, but I can't deny that blogging--writing my own posts and reading other blogs--is interfering with my novel-writing again. I'm going to have to put this blog on hiatus now until sometime in May, so I can finish novel #5 (the first draft, anyway).

I've also got some major non-writing projects going on that I haven't had on my plate in years past. My 2012 spring cleaning is more like an episode of Extreme Makeover. For example, this week I'm working on the kitchen. The refrigerator, microwave, and every area used for storage (cupboards, closets, everything) are getting completely cleaned and re-organized. Then I'm repainting the walls. All of them. Top to bottom. At least two coats.

And that's just one room...

I will likely still tweet from time to time, so I won't be completely AWOL. But for whatever reason, this time of year is when I'm the most creative, the most energetic, and the most productive. I have to take advantage of that.

*blows kisses*

Until we meet again, Happy Writing!

  3. Have a fantastic break! I totally understand. Last year, I took off July and August to do revision and spend valuable time with my kids. It was quite refreshing.

  6. Enjoy your time away. I'll miss your posts, but I totally get needing time away from all of the social media to just write and figure out what happens next, either in a novel or in real life.

  12. Good luck! Have a swell break. I think this is a brilliant idea. As someone who writes from home, it is all to easy to write 24/7 - with never ending shifts. Weekends off and Spring Breaks are lovely, just to recharge and relearn the world for a bit.
